Golders Green Rapidplay Handicap held at the Piccolo Restaurant, Golders Green
June 27th
Report by Adam Raoof
26 players hungry for practice turned out for the inaugural seven round rapidplay chess tournament at this popular restaurant in Golders Green, which is co-owned by Barnet Chess Club player Salvatore Pepe.

Players had a total of just forty minutes for the whole game, which led to some
spectacular time-scrambles.
Once the smoke had cleared the worthy winner was Miroslav Houska, who plays for Slough
Chess Club in the National League and who is just one step away from completing the
necessary requirements for his International Master title. He also won a £40 meal voucher
and a unique, hand-carved wooden trophy, courtesy of Salvatore's business partner Panos
Michael!
