"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the
unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress
depends on the unreasonable man".
George Bernard Shaw

Abstract
This set of papers looks at planning. It discusses what a plan is, and gives indicators as
to what elements to assess. A lively discussion example focuses on a particular example
and attempts to bring out the practical issues related to planning. Planning linked to
specific positional elements are looked at, in particular pawn structure and space.
Finally it presents a challenge to the traditional assess-> plan-> execute model
found in many middlegame books.
