We now have the following position:-

We now now been pushed into our 1st corner with only 2 main possibilities: (Well the 3rd Kxd7 is for those wanting to lose very quickly to Gary!)
1) ... Nxd7
2) ... Qxd7
We need to think in terms of plans and have a coherent logical plan based on which move we choose by the voting process.
The Voting process- not necessarily a guarantee for a coherent plan!
Unfortunately we do not have the ability to vote for a plan as opposed to voting for a move!! Voting for a specific move is asking for trouble!
What are our 2 plans with each of the two moves above that we have been cornered into?!
1... Nxd7

Plan(s) implied:
A) We can achieve a steady equality with this move by following up with standard moves like Ngf6, e6, Be7. However what if we wanted to pursue aggressive intensions on the queenside such as with the future plan of b7-b5 for example. It could be argued that the knight would be better placed on c6 for this kind of queenside advance.
Barnet's top seed Paul Georghiou notes: Nxd7 allows White to play d4 and after cxd4 Qxd4, white might then play the move c4 with a kind of Maroczy bind:-

d4 would not be as attractive if the black knight were still on b8. Black would then be able to gain a tempo straight away with Nc6 and have a stronger grip generally on the d4 square.
B) We can castle queenside. This might be a very risky plan!

1... Qxd7
Plan(s) implied:
We have kept alive the resource of Nc6. The knight on c6 is exerting central pressure on the d4 square. This looks superficially like a better position for the knight than on d7. It also seems more relevant to the general plan of queenside expansion, for example supporting the later possible advance of b7-b5-b4. b4 will be a square the knight protects.
